September 4 FULL MOON

by Kelley Hunter

The Full Moon of September 4 illumines the polarity of the signs Virgo and Pisces. The Sun is in Virgo, the Earth Mother. The Moon is full in Pisces, the Two Fish. Virgo applies practical, common sense while determining priorities. Pisces is the dreamer, going with the flow, seeking mystical communion. These two signs most epitomize the stretch of human experience as we seek to align Heaven (Pisces) and Earth (Virgo).

One of the major headliners among the planetary patterns of the year is occurring in these two signs. Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces are gearing up for their third and final exact face-off in these signs in just a couple of weeks. This Full Moon taps into the approach of this critical turning point in the social change and consciousness shift, but it’s the next New Moon on September 18 that plugs into it most directly—keep tuned in. Meanwhile we get some time to prepare ourselves.

It’s the planet Mercury that claims attention at this Full Moon. This Messenger of the Gods slows down, preparing to go into retrograde motion. You may have heard about this astrological moment, often greeted with a groan. Mercury goes retrograde three, sometimes four times a year. Imagine the swift courier of the FTD florist stopping, turning around and going backwards. Whatever is he thinking? Did he forget something? Is he going the wrong way? Did he forget the address? The point of Mercury retrograde is that it gives us time to rethink, pick up some dropped balls, to go back over what has been happening. This can be a welcome breather, especially in such times as ours, moving a such a rapid pace.

Mercury moves in retrograde for three weeks, preceded by a three-week gearing up and a three-week download, defining a circle of influence that stretches across 16 degrees of the zodiac. This month, that circle is full of special effects, connecting and reconnecting to powerful planetary patterns. Let’s look at this cycle.

The gear-up started on August 17. Can you think back to what was going on then for you? At that time Mercury In Virgo was conjunct Saturn and setting off the opposition with Uranus. That week brought significant information and a situation that may come back around the last week of September and the first week of October (health care bill?).

Mercury then crossed into Libra on August 25-26, immediately creating a challenging dialogue with the power planet, Pluto, in Capricorn, and the action planet, Mars, in Cancer, a contentious combination that remains potent on this Full Moon The big news of the day in the U.S. was the death of beloved Senator Ted Kennedy, which has an impact on a number of charged political issues, primarily health care. It was also a moment that opened a window back to the pivotal decade of the1960s. The 40th anniversary and a new movie about the Woodstock Festival reinforced those memories. Though they say that anyone who was at Woodstock doesn’t remember much. (I was there, and I’ve got to say I find that to be true!)

As this Full Moon turns to wane, Mercury turns retrograde on September 7, asking us to review and continue to discuss the issues we care most about. In Libra, Mercury suggests that we have choices to consider and decisions to make—but not for the next three weeks. Mercury and Pluto bring more world-changing news, on a personal and collective level, on September 18, as it heads back into Virgo for a few weeks.

Mercury is strong in its own sign of Virgo, giving this particular Mercury retrograde cycle a strength and especially positive potential—IF we do the work. That works is carefully analyzing our situation, being realistic about what we can accomplish at this time, even while realizing it is time for new approaches and radical ideas. The influence of Saturn requires serious thinking and, yet again, a significant reconsideration of our priorities. Virgo is a list-making sign. What is at the top of your list? How many things have you crossed off in this last month? How is that list now changing?

We’ll know by the end of this retrograde circle, as Mercury again helps turn the tides, aligning with the Saturn-Uranus opposition. Mercury turns forward the last day of September and completes the retrograde circle of influence in mid-October.

Mythically Mercury is a trickster. On the first day he was born, he crept out of his crib and stole cattle from the Sun god, Apollo—then lied about it! A shrewd assessment of circumstances and a tactile analysis of any situation is called for. As an Earth sign, Virgo has a natural wisdom. Watch for signs around you, listen to your body, support your physical wellness during the high energy cosmic download in progress. Nature is giving us many clues. The status quo cannot be taken for granted. Is that not obvious by now?

Mercury is also a magician, adding and mixing elements, people, information using inventive combinations with an unexpected flair. Let’s make this magic work, inviting a new perspective into the mix. Who would have thought of that?! Mercury retrograde and you!

SUN SIGN FORTUNE COOKIES:

VIRGO — HAPPY BIRTHDAY, you salt-of-the-earth worker-bees. Saturn in your sign for the last two years has required focus and discipline, which can sometimes feel like the weight of the world. Yet it also rewards a job well done. When you take responsibility, you develop mastery and excellence, which are very satisfying to your perfectionism.

LIBRA — You’ll soon be taking stock about where your balance is on and off kilter. Take some time now to sort out where you stand on issues that need to be discussed. Compromise may not be an option. Look for the win-win in any situation.

SCORPIO — The social texture of your life may be changing, yet you are well-supported by the power planet Pluto, which you can make your best friend. The only power is that of love, as you surely know or find out sooner or later.

SAGITTARIUS — The roller coaster you are riding is exciting yet it also takes attention to keep on track. You’re directing the show. What is your goal? The way to that goal may be changing, so hang a right or a left at that next star.

CAPRICORN — Saturn is your life guide, supporting you to make common sense decisions that may be extraordinarily life-changing. When you are dealing with situations beyond your control, you can at least take control of your reactions.

AQUARIUS — Opportunities may come your way “out of the blue.” You can capitalize on them by keeping as many ducks in a row as will stay there. Some ducks belong back in the pond anyway and others are flying overhead. You probably know what I mean.

PISCES — Personal relationships may be ready for the next step. Professional colleagues, especially those in charge, may be looking to you to step us as well. Be as clear as possible about what you can handle well without over-much stress.

ARIES — Many details call for attention even as priorities change. You’ll have plenty of time to sort and sift through the options, No need to rush. You like to get moving, but you have other people to consider. Give impulsive actions a second thought.

TAURUS — This month’s agenda satisfies your taste for getting things done and being productive. Still, continue to give yourself time to lie in the hammock and dream a sea dream. Such moments can be more useful than you might think!

GEMINI — It’s about time for you busy bees to hunker back in the hive and make some honey. You’ve been gathering all sorts of information and possibilities. Now it’s coming time to put them to use and see how sweet the honey will taste.

CANCER — The pace of change can have you feeling a bit breathless. You have time to take some deep breaths this month, before the pressure is on again. Take care of yourself and you can plunge ahead with increased ease, following the path of most potential for growth.

LEO — With the recent eclipses still ringing in your ears, you may be a bit astonished at your emerging role in the social drama. Ask questions, seek out information, and watch what is going on around you. People seek you out. Consider your words to express your best.

LILITH, the Cosmic Feminine:

In Myth, the Arts, Popular Culture and Astrology

at RVML, 258 A St., upstairs in Suite 7

http://www.rvml.org/wcplus2008/wc20090927.html

At once both ancient and modern, LILITH appears in our oldest literature. Goddess or demon, this alluring female figure has continued to fascinate our cultural imagination for over four millennia. If we follow her trail back in time to seek the source of the fear and negativity she typically evokes, we often discover, not only a major shift in the collective human image of the feminine, but also something essential that needs to be redeemed in our personal lives.

In the morning session, we draw from mythology and religious tradition as well as literature and art to see how Lilith has evolved through the centuries. The four astronomical Liliths will be introduced: Asteroid, Dark “Shadow Moon,” Black Moon and Star. In the afternoon, we apply the Lilith points to charts and lives of famous people and our own. Our discussion will range into states of consciousness, psychological shadows, eros, subtle energy fields and the galactic center as we seek her subtle signature in the spiritual and the mundane.

In this workshop, Kelley shares material from her two new books: Living Lilith: Four Dimensions of the Cosmic Feminine and Black Moon Lilith.

LILITH IN MOTION: Moving with the Cosmic Feminine

The goddess Lilith is timeless, infinite, primordial, subtle.

In our 21st century renaissance, renewed interest in the goddess has brought many faces of the divine feminine into modern awareness. Lilith is one of the most alluring—and ancient. After five thousand years of smoky rumours, this female of ambiguous reputation remains a mystery. As seductive femme fatale, goddess, vampire or beacon of female integrity, she has continued to excite our cultural imagination. If we follow her trail back in time to seek the source of the fear and negativity she typically evokes, we often discover, not only a major shift in the collective human image of the feminine, but also something essential that needs to be redeemed in our personal lives.

In this workshop we will use an experimental combination of Astrology, myth, imagery and Authentic Movement to explore how Lilith lives through each of us. There are four cosmic Liliths, resonating at different octaves of our beings.

Simply put, Authentic Movement is a practice that crosses the boundaries of spirituality, psychology, deep awareness, and creativity. With eyes closed to enhance the inner worlds, movers tune into the inner impulses that emerge in each passing moment and move from that place. The result is a tapping into deep wisdom, memory and knowing that is stored in or moving through the body. As we turn this work to the goddess Lilith, summoning her energy forward, we have the opportunity to move with her wisdom from the inside out.

Jan Sandman has studied and practiced the form of Authentic Movement for decades, and has taught the form for the past ten years. She has a private practice in Montpelier that is informed through her studies in Shamanism, Spirituality, Trager® Bodywork, Sound Healing, and the Energetics of Living. She is a writer and artist and has been published in Authentic Movement: A Collection of Essays. She lives in Montpelier, and leads two ongoing Authentic Movement groups.

ASTROLOGY: INSTANT ACCESS!

Class limited to 8 participants. Contact Ann Lindner at 802-456-1731

This one-day workshop introduces the cosmic language of the stars. An intuitive science and spiritual psychology, astrology is a study of natural cycles that connect Heaven and Earth. The dance of the sky and planets in relation to Earth becomes the choreography of our own human experience.

We will start with an overview of the “grammar” of astrology using classical mythology and up-to-date NASA images to spark our imagination. Using our own charts, we will focus largely on the zodiac signs and the planets and how to combine them. The two other key factors, houses and aspects, will also be introduced. Astrology is like a big drama: the planets are the actors, the signs are their agenda and costuming, the houses are the stage sets, the aspects are the dialogue the actors have with each other.

During our time together, you will gain insights you can use in your life. Part of our discussion will revolve around current cycles and what we are experiencing personally and on a global level. Astrology can be used as a visionary language of consciousness.

The Cosmic Feminine: Development of Consciousness

A growing awareness of the feminine divine inspires our 21st century renaissance. Astronomical discoveries of asteroids and new planets now offer more archetypal windows into this side of our consciousness. Starting with the Moon and Venus in our growth and emotional development, we will look at some asteroids as well as Ceres, Eris and Sedna, and then focus on Lilith in her multi-dimensional placements—asteroid, Dark Moon, Black Moon and star. An ancient figure, Lilith evokes both the dark and the light in the mysteries of soul expression. Our discussion will range into states of consciousness, psychological shadows, eros, subtle energy fields and the galactic center. Lilith awareness enhances our perceptions of the cosmic energy fields that increasingly infuses the solar system and impacts our personal experience to higher consciousness.
