SPRING – OR FALL — CLEANING by Kelley M. Hunter

This Full Moon on March 21 turns the wheel of the year in a powerful way. Closely following the Equinox, be it Spring or Fall for you, this Full Moon makes a celebration of the new season with a grand cross that touches all four equinox and solstice points. If it is your Spring Equinox, there has been no more appropriate year for spring cleaning. If you are entering Fall, it is a time to harvest and let go. Clean out all you don’t want to carry on with you into the new season and the new Pluto cycle.

The Full Moon is keenly impacted by PLUTO, the planet of the “Clean Sweep”. Have you seen that TV show where a team comes and moves absolutely everything out of a room of a house and it gets completely redesigned? The owners make piles of things to keep (very little), things to throw away, things to sell. It’s that kind of time. You can think about cleaning as if you were about to move—maybe you are! It is a time for many of us to re-place ourselves. It is a time of REBIRTH.

MARS is opposite Pluto, thus also in between the Sun and Moon, challenging us to move forward in the light of this Moon. In Cancer, it slows the impulsive pace of Aries to a more considered gait. Like the crab, Cancer can pull back into its hole, its safety zone. We’ve had the last six months to realize that won’t work, that growth and change are called for, on both personal and collective levels, to feel out what we need. Now action is called for, but responsive not reactive, shoot-from-the-hip action.

The Pluto-Mars GRAND SQUARE with the Full Moon pulls us in all directions. It is a dynamic Moon pattern following the last New Moon electrically charged by Uranus, the Change Agent. Powerful dynamics of change are showing up in the news and in our personal lives. Aries is about integrity, Libra about fairness and justice. Pluto is holding us to the line. As fully as you express your integrity, and have the courage to act from it, you will contribute to the current quantum shift in consciousness as it is manifesting in the Earth plane. The best you can do is BE YOU, in all your fullness.

This Full Moon pattern previews and possibly ignites issues connected to one of the most powerful planetary patterns of this decade. Just after the SUMMER SOLSTICE 2010, there is a Full Moon on June 26 that features the same grand cross with a slightly different roster of planets: the Sun in Cancer, Full Moon in Capricorn with Pluto RIGHT on it, Uranus and Jupiter have just moved into Aries, and Saturn is fast approaching the Libra line. That’s a WOW pattern with profound implications for global change. Of course, we are clearly seeing the signs now.

That’s not all. Saturn cooperates with Pluto to hold a strong line. Opposite Mercury and Venus in Pisces on this Moon, it brings Saturn’s focus to communications and relationships. Pisces has great compassion (or avoidance). Saturn in Virgo requires us to use our common sense in responding appropriately to the situation in the moment. How to respond to this Pisces flood of feelings? You can choose fear or you can choose love. Make the choice as conscious as you can.

To do this, we need both hemispheres of our brain. I was sent a link that I want to share with you. Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist, talks about her experience of a stroke, during which she quite clearly engaged both sides of her brain. We can think about the hemispheres of brain as connected with the Virgo-Pisces polarity. Virgo can describe the left, rational side of the brain that deals with mundane reality; Pisces reflects the right side of the brain that expands out into communion with the universe. The corpus callosum is a connector band that facilitates communication between the two hemispheres (ruled by Chiron, the Shaman planetoid that has a foot in both worlds). The stroke of insight, as she calls it, was an incredible spiritual experience, which she articulates beautifully. She was born some time in the 1960s, with the extraordinary planetary stretch between Virgo and Pisces that marks that decade and natives thereof. Her basic message is that we need to spend more time in our right brains.

Saturn in Virgo emphasizes the necessity of paying attention to signals from you body and from Nature. Virgo as an Earth sign demonstrates natural rhythms through the cycles of the seasons. Stress is the result of trying to push time or your body outside these natural rhythms. Typically our schedules do not take Nature much into account. And there is another factor to this Moon that emphasizes the call from Nature.

CERES, a dwarf planet, is at a pivotal point at this New Moon. This Mother Goddess rules the great round of life, so it is a good thing to check with her at such a seasonal turning point. She is about our connection to the land. She provides and feeds, via agriculture and natural resources. She is the nanny planet, promoting welfare and the common good, nurturing us physically and spiritually. Under her Greek name Demeter, she presided over the Eleusinian mysteries that conveyed the perennial wisdom teachings for many centuries. Ceres has been in Taurus since early June, going retrograde and forward again, spending even longer in this stabilizing earth sign. This is a homey sign for her, the one she was in when discovered in 1801.

During this Full Moon, Ceres is right in between the nodes of the Moon, those opposing points that mark eclipses, that signify a line of destiny.
Ceres creates a dynamic with destiny, from 27 degrees Taurus, the degree of the zodiac that marks the star Algol, the demon star also know as the penetrating Eye of Medusa. This star has also been called LILITH. It is the Eye that

perceives with an objectivity like that of nature itself and our dreams, boring into the soul to find the naked truth, to see reality beneath all its myriad forms and the illusions and defenses it displays.
(Sylvia Perera, Descent to the Goddess)

And, across the sky, there is the BLACK MOON LILITH, at the other point between the nodes, in Scorpio, a deeply penetrating sign. The Black Moon is like the black of starless midnight, a state of translucence or transparency that is beyond dark and light. This is a radiant black.
(China Galland, Longing for Darkness).

This is very powerful energy, carrying a feminine potency not to be doubted or trifled with. There are deep primordial forces at work, beneath the surface of the Earth and in the depth of our psyches.

There have been many stunning stories in the news these past couple of weeks, the dark and the light, with more to come as the wheel of this Equinox Full Moon turns the gears another notch. The word is live to your highest integrity, your fullest and brightest authenticity. The word is LOVE.

Spring Cleaning Special: Focusing on where the grand cross of this Full Moon and, later, the one in 2010 is activated in your chart. This is an area where your spring, or fall, cleaning is at work now. This is a pivotal time for those born in 1971-73, those born one day within an equinox or solstice, and the generation born 1988-1991. One hour, $100, offered until the next New Moon, April 5.

I’ll be starting the Lilith class some time in June. Announcement forthcoming.

For many years, I worked with Dragon Dance Theatre, creating outdoor mythic dramas, some times presented as side shows at Bread and Puppet Circus. (If you’ve seen the movie ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, you’ve seen Bread and Puppet in the circus tent that Bono brings the characters to.)
We did a series of plays based on the Sumerian myth of Inanna. THE HULUPPU TREE, from a 1991 B&P performance, is now on YouTube.
I play Lilith. The video is rather rough, but you can see it at:

While you’re visiting YouTube, if you haven’t already seen Women in Art by Eggman913, it is a wonderful tribute to the goddess in women:
