LONG AND WINDING ROAD
In the STARIQ. com New Moon report, Astro Wizard Jeff Jawer sums it up consummately:
The intense emotional force of the Scorpio New Moon usually drives
feelings deep inside to scoop up pieces of the past and re-examine them in light of current circumstances. This time, supportive trines to the
Sun-Moon conjunction from active Mars and revolutionary Uranus provide powerful motivation for letting go of old wounds, uncovering hidden resources, and applying them in new and different ways. Freedom from chronic emotional pain comes by following intuition and moving forward, rather than looking back and being mired in disappointment. Mystical Neptune’s square adds a spiritual dimension that increases the capacity to forgive yourself and others.

This November 9 New Moon at 18 degrees Scorpio is described this Sabian symbol:
A WINDING ROAD LEADS THROUGH GLORIOUS AUTUMNAL WOODS
Having just been in the northeast United States, in the Hudson River Valley and in Vermont, I was driving down such roads. In my mind, I can hear that reminiscent Beatles ballad about:
The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I’ve seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to your door
The wild and windy night
That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
Crying for the day
Why leave me standing here
Let me know the way

This has a wistful melancholy as many McCartney ballads do, a poetic moodiness and mystery that fits this particular New Moon with its full house of water. All water signs continue to be occupied, centered on Scorpio, supported by Uranus in Pisces and Mars in Cancer. Black Moon Lilith is still in Scorpio, very much a part of this month’s mystery mood.
Back home in St. John, Virgin Islands, I am full of mood and find myself apologizing to my friends for my behavior. I feel “not me”. Lilith has “really got a hold on me.” Now that I’ve made a public confession, I will get on with the real work of Lilith in Scorpio.
Deep down in Scorpio the uprooting goes on, as old dregs are dredged up, clean sweep, down and out. Go with the flow is the way to go. We can’t hold on, allow ourselves to be pulled back. We seek pure waters. We’re going to be really scrutinized before we’re done. Right up to the Jupiter-Pluto fireworks in Sagittarius!
When MARS GOES RETROGRADE in CANCER, starting November 18, the flow may slow down a bit. If we’ve been running rapids, we may feel a bit of a lull, so we re-right our sense of direction. What is feeling good? Have we gotten pulled off-track and stuck? Cancer can be pulled backward, seeking the “good old times,” the familiar and seemingly safe. Scouting out memories to help us put the present into perspective may be useful, but memories tend to be subjective and not always reliable. Check with family members about shared moments and see how different you remember them! It can be helpful to get a new take on the old story. It is time for an edit and a re- write before heading into the new Pluto cycle in January. The true essence of the sign Cancer is that of growth.
This Mars retrograde, back and forth across the Cancer-Gemini border, mirrors from across the sky the entry of Pluto from Sagittarius into Capricorn. Mars is the planet of action, the warrior god. Power plays are in the air. Those who know where the real power lies are the spiritual warriors.
The Scorpio Lilith New Moon, may show us where we get caught up and in our own way. Hidden influences, manipulative motivations and bad attitudes carry us into quick sand. Let such feelings flow on. You don’t need to claim them as your own, and they don’t own you. Mars can be defensive in Cancer; that doesn’t mean we need to make pre-emptive moves. Proceed with care. Protect and nurture those you love. Mutual support is a win-win for the whole human family.
CERES, the Good Earth, ecology and nanny planet, is opposite the New Moon, lending her common sensical support. She is spending extra time in Taurus, and is now retrograde, shaking up our sense of stability, of “real” estate, questioning whether our values lead to a sense of security. She is rumbling and rocking, pregnant with cosmic consciousness, deepening the roots of the world tree into its core energy. She grows orchards, sacred gardens, fields of grain and the maples and birches that turn to gold in the autumn. She will manifest according to her own laws of that which sustains. Her bedrock runs deep. See her image above from the front doors of a Vermont State building. Vermont’s Capitol building is topped by a statue of Ceres as Agriculture. She rules this small state in the Northeast United States, through which runs some of the oldest coral beds from ancient seas. Fossils embedded in the building’s black and white marble floors date back 500 millions years.
The Mars activity in the security-oriented sign of Cancer supports the themes of Ceres in Taurus. Mars goes retrograde at 13 degrees Cancer, in zodiacal alignment with the star Sirius, the star of Isis, the Statue of Liberty star. This Cancer degree is that of the Sun sign of the U.S.A. The American spirit is at a destiny point. Mars does not come back around to this point until early April 2008, at which time the Black Moon leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius. We will be in a different world scene by then, with Pluto in Capricorn. There are many signs in the political-economic situation that give us clues about Pluto’s new agenda. Pluto ignites transformational potentials. Fear and love are two ways to approach life.
I’ll be writing more about the Mars-Pluto dance. Meanwhile the winding road beckons, rather like a labyrinth, a sacred pathway toward inner and outer alignment. Master Astrologer Dane Rudhyar suggests this meaning for the Sabian symbol of the month:
The light which transfigures the soul after passions have faded away. Revelation of inner wealth. Radiant consummation.
I look forward to seeing you on this long and winding road.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing
There is a field. I will meet you there. Rumi
