The FULL MOON of JANUARY 29-30 – Man in Full Moon

By Kelley Hunter

The FULL MOON of JANUARY 29-30 —on 29th: 10:18pm PST; on 30th:1:18am EST, 6:18am GMT— takes place in the Aquarius-Leo polarity with a spicy tango between Mars and Venus. Another headliner of this Full Moon is Jupiter, which has just entered Pisces. The “king” is bowing out of the evening sky and moving into Pisces, stirring the underwater currents to a fuller flow and big waters, literally and emotionally. Do you believe in magic?

The FULL MOON in LEO emphasizes affairs of the heart, accompanied by Mars, still in retrograde. Mars is brilliant in the night sky emitting its steady red glow. The Martian hero bends his knee to the goddess, as if he is being knighted by the Aquarian queen. The Man-in-the-Full Moon is stepping back in honor of the Sun Goddess across the way, reflecting her light. That takes courage. Many cultures have myths of the life-giving radiance of the Sun Goddess. With the Leo emphasis, creative expression and physical exercise is a good way to channel some of the internalized, even frustrated, energy that the retrograde Mars can harbor.

The SUN is dawning in AQUARIUS, closely accompanied by two goddesses—Venus and Black Moon Lilith. For the last New Moon I wrote a bit about the myth of Venus as Inanna descending to the underworld to meet her dark sister. This Sumerian myth was later retold in the Babylonian version of Ishtar, and eventually morphed into the story of Aphrodite and her lover Adonis. These myths of the feminine continues to play out, invisibly, during this Full Moon, with her Martian lover across the way. The dance of Mars with Venus-Black Moon Lilith under the light of this Full Moon brings relationships into heightened awareness. Essentially it offers a polarized awareness of each our own male and female sides.

Venus seeks emotionally happiness, Black Moon seeks the freedom of the soul. Black Moon Lilith is the dark sister, like a Black Madonna, an aspect of the goddess that contains hidden mysteries and miracles of the dark mother. Black Moon is not a body, but a mathematical point that indicates the second focus of the Moon’s elliptical orbit around the Earth. Think of it as a deep desire of the soul to embody on Earth. Black Moon is connected to the core of the Earth.

The life force of the Sun encompasses this encounter of the goddesses and we feel the effects. Venus reminds us of our values, joy and satisfaction in life. Arm-in-arm with Black Moon Lilith, the conversation is whispered in electrical Aquarian airwaves. Black Moon is aetherically clever, moving in energy waves, in moods and dreams. Give yourself as much space in the day as you can to tune in to the secret call of the heart. In Aquarius this cosmic feminine is like a lightning bolt of consciousness that strikes from heaven to earth and back again—a cosmic cry, of the sorrow, joy and ecstasy of life.

Further into Aquarius, Chiron and Neptune are closely aligned, as they were last year and will be through most of 2010. The healer and the dreamer are one. What is your dream? And, equally to the point, what is OUR dream? Aquarius is about WE, Leo is about ME. With Mars retrograde in Leo, the ME steps back. When we catch ourselves in any of our prickly instinctive reactions, we gain self awareness. As a result, we open our hearts, find truer love and our best creative effort to contribute to the WE. As Pluto and Saturn continue their rigorous conversation about necessary, inevitable and sometimes painful transformation of the very way in which we live, WE are cosmically challenged to find the heart of the current chaos and unfurl the new collective dream.

The universe conspires toward purity,
Pushes deep,
Deep into the darkness
Beyond fear and pain,
Tossing motes to the wind.

The fierce exultation
Lulls,
Droops over itself into a pool.
A willow can bend so far,
Diving into the river where it weeps
Weeps, catching those souls
Who flow past concealed, womblike,
In preparation for a new birth.
We push through,
Running a hard breath.

The birds catch sunset winds
On their wingtips. They sail
Before the enflamed clouds in apparent freedom.
We, too, soar midway between earth and sky,
Reaching toward both,
Blood and fire beating in our hearts.

For those who like cripsy ASTRO FORTUNE COOKIES:
AQUARIUS—HAPPY BIRTHDAY, you Water-Bearers, highly-charged carriers of life force! You’ve weathered the main quantum shift in your life, even as the ripple effects continues to uplift your spirits. Be in the best flow and the best company.

PISCES—Jupiter in Pisces this year benefits you the most. Enjoy the fullness of the swift currents and strong-flowing energy that offers opportunities galore. Take plenty of time to rest, float in the water and let the impressions of the day wash through.

ARIES—Clear the decks for action without grumbles, mumbles and mutterings. Bide your time in the best way you know how for the next few months. You will be ready to jump into action in the spring as exciting new impulses grab your interest.

TAURUS—The slow pace that begins the new year suits your style—patient and persistent. Channel your creative and emotional energies, so frustration doesn’t get the best of you at “those” moments. A strong potential for success is very motivating.

GEMINI—Some serious thinking has been in order. Things lighten up this month as uplifting inspirations buzz like bees. You are getting a lot of support for doing what you do best, yet the tendency and temptation for distraction can pull on you too.

CANCER—This year rewards not the sentimental. When the old familiar beckons, wave goodbye. A pragmatic, business-like approach may feel rather cold to you, but you’ll find it more effective in getting what you really need.

LEO—You are seeking a deeper level of motivation in fresh energy and creative collaborations. Relationship issues may need attention, as you commune within your heart about how you are showing up in life and love.

VIRGO—It may be hard to keep track of everything, with a huge wave of new opportunities and lots of people. If anyone, it will be you list keepers, most alert to tracking details, who keep an eye on the priority of the moment and respond.

LIBRA—With Saturn in your sign, you are defining your terms, negotiating issues and making or facing more decisions that usual. This is good, proper and timely. Use the moment well and you will have a new lease on life in late spring.

SCORPIO—Your strategic self sees the possibilities, but you know it’s not quite time for action. Not much longer now. Trust those deep instincts, which are keener than ever (unless you have succumbed to the dark side).

SAGITTARIUS—The push and pull of last year is well behind you, but don’t take anything for granted. The pace continues like a rushing river. Imagine the possibilities, set your goals and prepare yourself to get back in the game with renewed verve.

CAPRICORN—Remember that your totem is the sea-goat, a mythical creature of ancient magic. Draw from that energy inside you are you re-create your life, even if it means taking the structure down and rebuilding it one brick at a time.

A MEDITATION FOR HAITI

Please give this to any who may use it.

For the healing of the Earth. In the embracing love of the Divine Mother as she tends her beloved children in their need.

On our meditation on Haiti and that sad situation of suffering I thought some of you may want an idea to follow in service to the moment of opportunity it offers in planetary healing. So I offer the following short meditation. It is best if you can find at least one other to meditate with, on the phone is fine, and form a triangle with the Christ. Link to all other triangles of meditating healers and pull them into your service.

Awaken the soul light above the head. Invite your soul group to work with you. Visualize a group crystal and move above the Island. There I see a great angel working. Violet healing devas are among the many coming and going from her to the people. She covers a huge area and many angelic beings come and go in and around her. Streams of compassion, love energetic support and care flood in waves of color and light into the area. At the center is a blazing diamond of the heart of the Christ. Bring your jewel into this heart and magnetize to you all the workers on the inner plane. Visualize a crystal obelisk from deep in the earth up to and beyond the level of the soul.

Imagine it rising into the higher center of the Christ as the mediator between Hierarchy and Shamballa. See it rise past that in spirit form and enter Shamballa where the spirit of all earth life is embraced and known. Invoke the Avatar of Synthesis in his unifying power to bring the power of the will to good to this place.

“The highest and the lowest meet.”

Use your heart in the Christ, Your soul in the Hierarchy and your mind in the higher purpose center of love to pull the organizing energies of the entire planet into forming a working spiritual service in this place. The energies of healing and the process of restitution for those leaving earth lives are working as you call to order the purpose of this great sacrifice. Down the channel of life from high above the purifying energies of healing planetary love pour in their destroying, building cleansing healing aspects and the great dark shadow that has distorted this place and affected the lives of these good people is transmuted into the release of healing and light that raises the power of good to a height equal to the suffering and horror experienced by the millions of human beings.

All the outpouring of pain, loss, despair, and surrender rise to meet the down pouring compassion, love spirit and determination for empowered healing focused in the mind of the Christ as he seeks to bring emerging spiritual purpose from this moment.

I see the explosion and radiance of pure white light from this place penetrating deep into the surrounding area and back into the mists of time. The clearing, restoring energies of the Christ, the Buddha and the lord of the World send the power of resurrection into and throughout the entire cycle of karmic need held embraced in this world event.

Be one with the healing power.
Be one with the restoring power
BE one with the releasing energies of resurrection of that which is pure, true and whole.
Let the good the beautiful and the true restore this place

“I am a planet of love
Renewed in a body of light
With one light
With one heart
With one will
In surrender serene and transcendent.”

It is for the perfection of love that all life moves forward.
Let that power of good resonate throughout the world.
Let our hearts be one with their hearts

If you know it, sound The Great Invocation and end with an OM.

God Bless these who suffer among us in their hour of need.

DECREE OF ABUNDANCE

From The Light of God that I Am.
From The Love of God that I Am.
From The Power of God that I Am.
From The Heart of God that I Am.

I Decree-

I dwell in the midst of Infinite Abundance. The Abundance of God is my Infinite Source.

The River of Life never stops flowing. It flows through me into lavish expression. Good comes to me through unexpected avenues and God works in a myriad of ways to bless me.

I now open my mind to receive my good. Nothing is too good to be true. Nothing is too wonderful to have happen. With God as my Source, Nothing amazes me.

I Am not burdened by thoughts of past or future. One is gone. The other is yet to come.

By the power of my belief, coupled with my purposeful fearless actions and my deep rapport with God, my future is created and my abundance made manifest.

I ask and accept that I am lifted in this and every moment into Higher Truth. My mind is quiet.

From this day forward I give freely and fearlessly into life and Life gives back to me with magnificent increase. Blessings come in expected and unexpected ways. God provides for me in wondrous ways.

I AM indeed grateful. And I let it be so.

Saying it is not enough, believing it changes everything and then acting upon it changes everything, yet again!

This Friday’s annular (ring-like) eclipse of the Sun is the longest for the next 1000 years!

The eclipse begins in Western Africa at 05:14 UT (4:14pm AEDT). The eclipse path is 331 km wide at its start as the antumbra (the circular silhouette of the Moon) quickly travels east-southeast at 10km per second.

Sun, Earth and Moon geometry means the eclipse shadow changes speed and the rapid start decreases to just 1.5km/s and increases again at the end of the eclipse. The maximum duration of just over 11 minutes at 6:59 UT to 7:10 UT will be observed from the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya.

At over 11 minutes it will be the longest annular eclipse of the 3rd Millennium and the duration will not be exceeded until the year 3043.

This eclipse will not be visible from Australia.

The path will then pass between India and Sri Lanka, across the Bay of Bengal to Burma and lastly China’s Shandong province at 08:59UT.

However, it is vital to note that despite 91% of the Sun’s disk being covered by the Moon, it is still exceedingly dangerous to look at with the unaided eye. Permanent damage may result by attempting to look at it so please ensure that if you live under the path of the antumbra or to the sides where a partial solar eclipse will be visible than you and everyone else do not observe the Sun directly. Use appropriate filters or make a pinhole camera and project a small image of the Sun or, better still, visit your local public observatory.

BLUE MOON ECLIPSE

by Kelly Hunter

……the beams of the celestial bodies being animated, living, sensual, and bringing along with them admirable gifts and a most violent power, do, even in a moment, and at the first touch, imprint wonderful power.…..
— Renaissance magician Cornelius Agrippa, 1531

It’s startling and rather special to have a Blue Moon eclipse on New Year’s Eve, like rare flower blossoming in the sky. Here in the Caribbean, we have the Night-Blooming Cereus. Its bud appears on an extended stem and opens for just one night into a multi-layered, lotus-like bloom with an incredibly sweet fragrance. This, the second Full Moon in December for most parts of the world, may feel like such a special, rare moment if we are awake to catch its scent. Like a rose, however, there are thorns to beware of during this celestial gateway into 2010.

Such an eclipse offers an especially good opportunity for new year’s resolutions or, rather, promises to ourselves. With the Full Moon in Cancer, the past has a strong and sentimental “auld lang sine” memory field with a pull to the old and familiar. A life review is not out of place on the transformation threshold we are crossing, but we don’t want to linger there. Replay that Beatles song, “There are places I remember” with its acknowledgement of times past, and its grounding in the present:

These memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

This eclipse seeks to short-circuit automatic memory trails of the past (and aren’t we all losing our memories!?) in favor of be-here-now pragmatic choices that foster growth based on the current situation, reflecting the realistic light of the Capricorn Sun. It may feel like we have to trash the past to move on, but that is too harsh for the Cancer Moon. We need a personal emotional base of operation, and we don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water, as the old saying goes. Some of those tried and true homilies might come in handy.

Capricorn is full of planets on this Full Moon. Venus and Pluto stand for the power of the dark goddess within the Sun’s light. Planets this close to the Sun are called “combust,” a condition which is said to weaken their power. This does not bode well for the economic situation, as Venus rules the financial world. Venus is also the goddess of love and relationship. We are hereby given the proper strategy for success—rebuild with love. Even though Venus’s power is hidden in the light of the Sun, she can work from behind the scenes. Accompanied by Pluto, Venus can bide her time, as remote Pluto, planet of let-go-and-let-goddess, continues to dismantle the old system. An overhaul is in order for another decade and a half. The necessity is to rebuild, to regenerate from the Earth upward into human civilization.

I just saw the movie Avatar with its timely message that so beautifully expresses the creative and life-affirming nature of Gaia, our home planet (the movie is set on a world named Pandora, seen as one of the moons of Jupiter). The Moon in Cancer strengthens the theme of home and family. Venus opposite the Moon places the two most feminine identifiers across the chart from each other, highlighting feminine consciousness as the goddess continues her renaissance. We need to encompass both the nurturing Great Mother and the Crone who cuts the cord from the past. The eclipse favors the Crone, supported by Black Moon Lilith, a Black Madonna face of the feminine who admonishes us to listen to the instructions coded in the interpenetrating web of earth and sky.

On the threshold of the New Year, Saturn or Kronos, the god of time, is often pictured with his sickle, cutting away the old year. Saturn plays a big role in this New Year eclipse, actively challenging the Capricorn energy, in particularly close dialogue with Pluto. Saturn is excellently placed in Libra, which helps smooth the way to some extent, as long as we address Saturn’s requirements for negotiation, balance and justice. We have great capacity to manifest meaningful and deeply transformational change, from the inside out. Libra is a relationship-oriented sign, referring to our relationship with ourselves as well as others. It is clearly time to cut some ties, whether it be through a natural parting of ways, relocation, death, divorce or some other necessity. We then forge new connections in the dynamic global networking so significant in our times. Another good song for this Full Moon is Time, by the Alan Parsons Project:

Goodbye my friends, The stars wait for me
Who knows where we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea…..
gone forever, gone forever, gone forevermore

Mercury is also in Capricorn, close to and “under the beams” of the Sun, it is said— and retrograde, altogether withdrawing in an introspective manner. The year gets a slow start and it may feel like we are going backwards for a few months. There is much old business to attend to. Mars is also retrograde, further slowing progress. But we cannot move functionally forward without due consideration, conversation and education about the most important issues.

Uranus, the Awakener and Change-Maker, adds a stroke of genius to the Sun and is the best planet going on New Year’s Eve. A revolution is in progress, certainly.

In summary, we start the New Year with an eclipsed Moon, a weakened Venus and Mercury, and Mars both retrograde. Be kind to yourself and others, take it slow. This is a time to take stock, to harbor your resources of all types, cherish your extended family, and weigh your options in the light of practical reality. The pace picks up in the spring. so bide your time and use it well for deep consideration and planning.

In light of this Blue Moon challenge as a start to the new year, we may want further insight from an alternative viewpoint. Chinese New Year begins on the Aquarius New Moon, February 14—Valentine’s Day with a mysteriously nuanced pattern of planets! This incoming Year of the Tiger is one of revolutionary strength backed by stealthy strategy and careful planning, bravery and courage. The tiger protects and roars its protest in the face of wrongdoing, ready to move forward and take on a challenge with passion. The new horizon is one of consciousness as well as mind-bending mundane manifestations. But more on that when the time comes!

Happy New Year!

DANCING IN LIGHT
By M. Kelley Hunter
kellhunter@earthlink.net

The NEW MOON of December16 (USA 7:02am EST, 12:02pm GMT, 10:02pm AEDT) dazzles with the inspirational fire light of Sagittarius. Venus close by to the Sun-Moon bespeaks the presence of the goddess and her quality of emotional intelligence in this moon cycle that takes us across into the New Year.

URANUS WILD CARD
This is one of a number of juicy New Moons coming up that have surprisingly energetic patterns involving the most dynamic planets. This New Moon picks up on radical Uranus energy, in a very close square formation that changes things up. Uranus is like a wild card, you never quite know what unexpected impact is likely. This “odd ball” planet rotates on its side with its south pole pointing toward the Sun. It stays in a sign for seven years, presenting us with a revolutionary theme experienced on a global level. Uranus has been in Pisces since 2003-2004. It is one factor contributing to the global sensation of the psychic internet, to the flow of heightened energy that has swept in waves, literally, across our blue planet to awaken our sense that we are all in this together.

A Sagittarian moon stimulates the imagination and intuition, a state enhanced by Uranus in the dream-time sign of Pisces. This Moon offers a great opportunity to envision the New Year and even further out. Like a bolt of lightning, Uranus will shock us into present awareness if we get too spacey. A social revolution is afoot (Pisces rules the feet), and we’re all in its flow, whether we are trying to kick upstream or go with the rapid current.

The PLUTO-SATURN CHALLENGE
keeps us on track, as we continue into the era of Pluto in Capricorn, necessarily addressing pragmatic choices which face us early in the New Year. Sagittarius is idealistic. As you aim your arrows into the New Year, take a good and serious look at your life before moving too fast forward. In this era we are called to reshape our collective experience in relation to our place in the Cosmos. This New Moon opens a powerful window to create a heart-felt vision of your personal goals to keep you on track when the going gets rough and decisions loom. What action will bring you closer to your goal?

BACKWARDS MARS
That’s a relevant question, as red action planet Mars turns retrograde on December 20, as if celebrating Solstice. Seeming to move backwards through more than half of fire sign Leo, Mars energizes the New Moon and especially Venus. How nice to have the two mythic lovers in rapport at such an interesting moment. Imagine that Mars is stepping back to let Venus dancing gracefully across the threshold of the New Year. So close to the Sun as to be invisible to us, Venus is bathed in the radiance of the Sun.

Retrograde Mars can be frustrated as its energy is turned inward and internalized. It’s a time for the “taming of the shrew” for each of us, as we need to step back from our personal agenda to see more clearly our part in the larger drama. Sometimes we have to stroke our little selves like a cat with fur turned up to tame that rampant lion that wants it all to be its own way. May your sense of humor bubble up from a deep well, and may the Great Spirit, the All-That-Is, the God/dess channel through you beyond the parameters your ego would allow.

REACHING FOR ECSTASY
This New Moon tunes beautifully into the rare Aquarian conjunction of the Big Planet Jupiter, quantum Chiron and mystical Neptune that signals the global dimensions of the change you may be feeling. December 7 featured the exact conjunction of Jupiter and Chiron, with its potential of quantum leap in belief systems. That’s part of the existential quality of this timeless moment: what do you believe as what we call reality shimmers around you? So many people are feeling overwhelmed by the roller coaster sensation of daily life these days. A critical shift of consciousness inevitably ripples into the mundane. We are each responsible for our participation and will each reap appropriate results.

The next full moon is a Blue Moon with a partial eclipse on New Year’s Eve. More commentary on that next time. May love light your way into the New Year!

The Orange Starfish

I found a beautiful orange starfish on a sandbank in Sydney Harbour and took him carefully back to deeper waters…

The Starfish story
Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his journal writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?”
The young man paused, looked up and replied, “Throwing starfish in the ocean.”
“I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?”
“The sun is up, and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in they’ll die.”
“But, young man, don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

NEW MOON DIRECTIONS

NEW MOON DIRECTIONS
by M. Kelley Hunter

The GEMINI FULL MOON on December 1-2 (2:30am EST, 7:30am GMT)
shines with curiosity, whimsy and spontaneity, reflecting and communicating the intuitive vision of the Sagittarius Sun. Also in Sagittarius, Venus sweetens the fire, while Mercury keeps things moving at a fast pace. Mars in fire sign Leo supports energy, courage and confidence, even as we continue to experience the rigor of the Pluto-Saturn challenge to redefine the terms of our day-to-day agenda.

Under this Full Moon, much information is aired and shared, aiding our quest for answers and a sense of direction in these changeable times. New options come into view. Let’s take advantage of this waning Moon to connect some dots, catch up with each other and our own thoughts. The next New Moon on December 16 rolls in on a huge wave of energy, with an obvious change of pace.

STORY LINE
Sabian Symbols are images for each degree of the zodiac developed by Marc Edmund Jones, one of our finest American astrologers, and a well-respected psychic, Elsie Wheeler. These symbols illuminate the meaning of special moments, often playing out in uncanny and literal ways. On a Full Moon we connect the two symbols of the Sun and Moon for the story line.

The image for the Sun at 11 degrees Sagittarius is:
AN EVER-BURNING LAMP THROWS LIGHT UPON AN ARCHAIC IDOL
Sagittarius is a sign of philosophy and perennial wisdom. Insight into old, perhaps outworn beliefs is indicated here. The word idol is a charged one. Idolatry suggests a fundamental fixity on an outer form or one version of reality. It places our attention outside of ourselves and our inner experience. We lose touch with the freshness of the living moment, and our souls. Archaic is another nuanced word. It can mean ancient, from an older time, yet the meaning also includes a sense of being outdated. Modern minds can easily misinterpret ancient teachings, as today we think differently and experience life from a vastly different perspective.

2012?
Case in point: the 2012 Mayan calendar. The Hollywood movie which just opened to huge international audiences seems to be the ultimate disaster movie. This is not what the Mayans foresaw. With their broad, galactic vision, the Mayans marked December 21, 2012 as an astronomically pivotal moment in a very long cycle of time, an ending of one phase and the beginning of another. The Winter Solstice comes into alignment with the heart of the Milky Way galaxy for the first time in 26000 years. It has happened before and it will happen again. It may mean the end of the world as we know it, and we are already in the process. I’m for a heart-centered world, aren’t you? Then we must turn away from fear and walk in love.

NEW VISTAS
This Full Moon in 11 degrees Gemini leads us there:
NEWLY OPENED LANDS OFFER VIRGIN REALMS OF EXPERIENCE
There are few enough frontiers left to explore on our small globe, but we have a full range of ways to live on it. December is a celebratory month for many faiths, with Hanukkah (12th), Winter Solstice (21st), Christmas (25th), Kwanzaa (26th), and New Year’s Eve—2010 already! At the heart of each the ever-burning lamp of truth shines on, despite the artificial barriers and boundaries erected by those closed to and afraid of different names for the Great Mystery. The symbol of this Full Moon invites us to continue on the journey, enthused about the new potentials opening before us as a global community. The optimism of this Full Moon is underscored by the significant and serious urgency for a willingness to build new bridges even as the old (archaic, outdated) ones burn behind us. It’s the old Star Trek mission: to go where no one has gone before. Let’s go there together.

Statement by the President on Native American Heritage Day

“Tomorrow, Americans everywhere will observe our National Day of Thanksgiving. It will be a time of celebration and reflection as we gather with family and friends to count our blessings and remember those less fortunate. But it will also be a time to remember how this holiday began– as a harvest celebration between European settlers and the American Indians who had been living and thriving on the continent for thousands of years.”

“That is why on Friday, I encourage every American to join me in observing Native American Heritage Day. My Administration is committed to strengthening the nation to nation relationship with tribal governments. But it is also important for all of us to understand the rich culture, tradition and history of Native Americans and their status today- and to appreciate the contributions that First Americans have made, and will continue to make to our Nation.”
