DANCING IN LIGHT
By M. Kelley Hunter
kellhunter@earthlink.net

The NEW MOON of December16 (USA 7:02am EST, 12:02pm GMT, 10:02pm AEDT) dazzles with the inspirational fire light of Sagittarius. Venus close by to the Sun-Moon bespeaks the presence of the goddess and her quality of emotional intelligence in this moon cycle that takes us across into the New Year.

URANUS WILD CARD
This is one of a number of juicy New Moons coming up that have surprisingly energetic patterns involving the most dynamic planets. This New Moon picks up on radical Uranus energy, in a very close square formation that changes things up. Uranus is like a wild card, you never quite know what unexpected impact is likely. This “odd ball” planet rotates on its side with its south pole pointing toward the Sun. It stays in a sign for seven years, presenting us with a revolutionary theme experienced on a global level. Uranus has been in Pisces since 2003-2004. It is one factor contributing to the global sensation of the psychic internet, to the flow of heightened energy that has swept in waves, literally, across our blue planet to awaken our sense that we are all in this together.

A Sagittarian moon stimulates the imagination and intuition, a state enhanced by Uranus in the dream-time sign of Pisces. This Moon offers a great opportunity to envision the New Year and even further out. Like a bolt of lightning, Uranus will shock us into present awareness if we get too spacey. A social revolution is afoot (Pisces rules the feet), and we’re all in its flow, whether we are trying to kick upstream or go with the rapid current.

The PLUTO-SATURN CHALLENGE
keeps us on track, as we continue into the era of Pluto in Capricorn, necessarily addressing pragmatic choices which face us early in the New Year. Sagittarius is idealistic. As you aim your arrows into the New Year, take a good and serious look at your life before moving too fast forward. In this era we are called to reshape our collective experience in relation to our place in the Cosmos. This New Moon opens a powerful window to create a heart-felt vision of your personal goals to keep you on track when the going gets rough and decisions loom. What action will bring you closer to your goal?

BACKWARDS MARS
That’s a relevant question, as red action planet Mars turns retrograde on December 20, as if celebrating Solstice. Seeming to move backwards through more than half of fire sign Leo, Mars energizes the New Moon and especially Venus. How nice to have the two mythic lovers in rapport at such an interesting moment. Imagine that Mars is stepping back to let Venus dancing gracefully across the threshold of the New Year. So close to the Sun as to be invisible to us, Venus is bathed in the radiance of the Sun.

Retrograde Mars can be frustrated as its energy is turned inward and internalized. It’s a time for the “taming of the shrew” for each of us, as we need to step back from our personal agenda to see more clearly our part in the larger drama. Sometimes we have to stroke our little selves like a cat with fur turned up to tame that rampant lion that wants it all to be its own way. May your sense of humor bubble up from a deep well, and may the Great Spirit, the All-That-Is, the God/dess channel through you beyond the parameters your ego would allow.

REACHING FOR ECSTASY
This New Moon tunes beautifully into the rare Aquarian conjunction of the Big Planet Jupiter, quantum Chiron and mystical Neptune that signals the global dimensions of the change you may be feeling. December 7 featured the exact conjunction of Jupiter and Chiron, with its potential of quantum leap in belief systems. That’s part of the existential quality of this timeless moment: what do you believe as what we call reality shimmers around you? So many people are feeling overwhelmed by the roller coaster sensation of daily life these days. A critical shift of consciousness inevitably ripples into the mundane. We are each responsible for our participation and will each reap appropriate results.

The next full moon is a Blue Moon with a partial eclipse on New Year’s Eve. More commentary on that next time. May love light your way into the New Year!

The Orange Starfish

I found a beautiful orange starfish on a sandbank in Sydney Harbour and took him carefully back to deeper waters…

The Starfish story
Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his journal writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?”
The young man paused, looked up and replied, “Throwing starfish in the ocean.”
“I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?”
“The sun is up, and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in they’ll die.”
“But, young man, don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

NEW MOON DIRECTIONS

NEW MOON DIRECTIONS
by M. Kelley Hunter

The GEMINI FULL MOON on December 1-2 (2:30am EST, 7:30am GMT)
shines with curiosity, whimsy and spontaneity, reflecting and communicating the intuitive vision of the Sagittarius Sun. Also in Sagittarius, Venus sweetens the fire, while Mercury keeps things moving at a fast pace. Mars in fire sign Leo supports energy, courage and confidence, even as we continue to experience the rigor of the Pluto-Saturn challenge to redefine the terms of our day-to-day agenda.

Under this Full Moon, much information is aired and shared, aiding our quest for answers and a sense of direction in these changeable times. New options come into view. Let’s take advantage of this waning Moon to connect some dots, catch up with each other and our own thoughts. The next New Moon on December 16 rolls in on a huge wave of energy, with an obvious change of pace.

STORY LINE
Sabian Symbols are images for each degree of the zodiac developed by Marc Edmund Jones, one of our finest American astrologers, and a well-respected psychic, Elsie Wheeler. These symbols illuminate the meaning of special moments, often playing out in uncanny and literal ways. On a Full Moon we connect the two symbols of the Sun and Moon for the story line.

The image for the Sun at 11 degrees Sagittarius is:
AN EVER-BURNING LAMP THROWS LIGHT UPON AN ARCHAIC IDOL
Sagittarius is a sign of philosophy and perennial wisdom. Insight into old, perhaps outworn beliefs is indicated here. The word idol is a charged one. Idolatry suggests a fundamental fixity on an outer form or one version of reality. It places our attention outside of ourselves and our inner experience. We lose touch with the freshness of the living moment, and our souls. Archaic is another nuanced word. It can mean ancient, from an older time, yet the meaning also includes a sense of being outdated. Modern minds can easily misinterpret ancient teachings, as today we think differently and experience life from a vastly different perspective.

2012?
Case in point: the 2012 Mayan calendar. The Hollywood movie which just opened to huge international audiences seems to be the ultimate disaster movie. This is not what the Mayans foresaw. With their broad, galactic vision, the Mayans marked December 21, 2012 as an astronomically pivotal moment in a very long cycle of time, an ending of one phase and the beginning of another. The Winter Solstice comes into alignment with the heart of the Milky Way galaxy for the first time in 26000 years. It has happened before and it will happen again. It may mean the end of the world as we know it, and we are already in the process. I’m for a heart-centered world, aren’t you? Then we must turn away from fear and walk in love.

NEW VISTAS
This Full Moon in 11 degrees Gemini leads us there:
NEWLY OPENED LANDS OFFER VIRGIN REALMS OF EXPERIENCE
There are few enough frontiers left to explore on our small globe, but we have a full range of ways to live on it. December is a celebratory month for many faiths, with Hanukkah (12th), Winter Solstice (21st), Christmas (25th), Kwanzaa (26th), and New Year’s Eve—2010 already! At the heart of each the ever-burning lamp of truth shines on, despite the artificial barriers and boundaries erected by those closed to and afraid of different names for the Great Mystery. The symbol of this Full Moon invites us to continue on the journey, enthused about the new potentials opening before us as a global community. The optimism of this Full Moon is underscored by the significant and serious urgency for a willingness to build new bridges even as the old (archaic, outdated) ones burn behind us. It’s the old Star Trek mission: to go where no one has gone before. Let’s go there together.

Statement by the President on Native American Heritage Day

“Tomorrow, Americans everywhere will observe our National Day of Thanksgiving. It will be a time of celebration and reflection as we gather with family and friends to count our blessings and remember those less fortunate. But it will also be a time to remember how this holiday began– as a harvest celebration between European settlers and the American Indians who had been living and thriving on the continent for thousands of years.”

“That is why on Friday, I encourage every American to join me in observing Native American Heritage Day. My Administration is committed to strengthening the nation to nation relationship with tribal governments. But it is also important for all of us to understand the rich culture, tradition and history of Native Americans and their status today- and to appreciate the contributions that First Americans have made, and will continue to make to our Nation.”

Faery Gift

Last time I did a mass planting of veggie seedlings, the faeries left me a sixpence. Today, as I prepare to plant multiple types of herbs & veggies, the faeries have left me a 1974 American penny, plus a very old American 5c piece on my high kitchen windowsill, which is only accessible by a ladder… in Australia!

NEW MOON November 16/17th, 2009 – Multiple Squares
By M Kelley Hunter

ARE YOU FEELING IT?
The New Moon of November 16 (2:14 pm EST / 7:14pm GMT / 5:14am 17th Nov, Sydney, Australia) is in Scorpio, the most passionate sign. With the Sun and Moon meeting in this power-packed, super-charged sign, those still waters of Scorpio run especially deep with Niagara Falls intensity. At a recent Full Moon gathering at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, Alex Grey talked of Moon fluids that bathe us. These fluids are especially potent in the water sign of Scorpio, a veritable lunar Niagara Falls has been showering down. The New Moon infuses the subtle ethers with a new quality of energy that becomes more evident as the Moon waxes.

It is not just the Scorpio planets that are creating the tension and intensity. Just about all the planets are squaring each other. In astrology, a square is made by planets at a 90-degree, right angle. This sets off a challenge and sparks activity, as if we face a brick wall and have to find a way to get past it or build with it. Much architecture is designed on right angles. What does this mean? A lot is happening! Never a dull moment. Suggested strategy: step up and use this energy! What are you building?

PROVOCATIVE TANGO OF VENUS & MARS
Venus adds to the Scorpio flavor of this New Moon, plunging us into some serious questioning. Venus squares off with Mars, now in fiery Leo. Fireworks may ignite from this spicy tango between our two neighboring planets that reference our emotional lives. Leo loves drama and bares its heart on the stage of life. Venus is remote, reserved, even reclusive, in secretive Scorpio, a sign that undergoes much internal processing. These two planets in such a dynamic dance certainly evoke smoky chemistry. But any passionate encounters begun now may burn out sooner than later and not in a pretty way, or linger unsatisfactorily for several months, or end and come back around mid-December into March, when Mars revisits the territory. Is there any good news? Of course! It can be worth the plunge to get your juices running, and such emotional intensity finds a rewarding outlet through creativity and art, a potent way to use this planetary pair for the rest of November.

FACE-OFF OF SATURN AND PLUTO
Saturn and Pluto now make the first of several exact squares between them. These are two no-fooling-around, bottom-line planets. I once witnessed two fine astrologers play the roles of Saturn and Pluto during an astrodrama event (we costume up and act out the planets, such revelatory fun!). They were both in severe black. Pluto held a coiled whip, smacking it into her other hand. Saturn had his black-gloved hands folded across his chest, giving nothing away. They checked each other out, circling, for an extended moment. We watchers were holding our breath. They took a step closer, another step and then, abruptly, they shook hands, wrist grasping wrist. One or the other nodded. They had come to terms and settled their positions with mutual respect.

Let us contend with this rigorous encounter in like manner. Across national, political and ideological boundaries, we hear publicized debates on the Leo stage, yet inevitably there are Scorpionic back room negotiations and secret deals being struck. It is fitting and timely that further exposes of the history of global financial manipulation and predatory capitalism are in the media. Recently came out Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Affair; John Perkins’ Hoodwinked; and Frances Beinecke’s Clean Energy, Common Sense.

Saturn, the Time Lord, and Pluto, the Transformer, have a lot in common. They do demand respect. Neither gives an inch. They both carry profound wisdom of age and experience. They are relentless, inevitably putting on the pressure. Pluto in Capricorn necessitates letting go and attending to the new agenda: reshaping the way we live on Earth. Saturn announces that it is time for the next step in moving along on this agenda and taking responsibility for the choices we are making. One choice, largely unconscious, is to feel like a victim and blame it all on the government, the economy, etc. Another choice is to take charge and find a way to make the changes work for you, positively contributing to the collective transformation.

These two planets square off exactly again on January 31 and August 21. Jupiter and, more importantly, Uranus, join the action May-August. More on that later. We are heading into some dynamic patterns during which initiative is called for. Are you on the forward-moving band wagon?

AQUARIAN CONSPIRACY
Last but not least, the New Moon in Scorpio squares the ongoing triple conjunction in Aquarius. While Scorpio plunges deep into the undercurrent, Aquarius has the most capacity to step back and gain a broad, objective perspective. It’s like deep-sea diving with a full air tank on your back, or like a whale coming up for air. We need this air, this rational perspective, so that we are not blinded by the passions and unconscious motivations of Scorpio, yet we also need to acknowledge the wisdom of the irrational, the right-brain holism. Though not taught in public education, our emotional IQ, and spiritual IQ, is as important as our intellectual IQ. As we tune into the esoteric, subtle levels of reality, we will discover extraordinary potentials. It may be a question of belief. First, do you believe in your Self? What do you believe is possible in this era of quantum potential?
